cis-9-Tetradecenal is an insect pheromone. cis-9-Tetradecenal serves as a minor sex pheromone component in cotton bollworms; low concentrations enhance the attractiveness to male moths, while high concentrations significantly inhibit/antagonize the orientation behavior of male moths. In tobacco budworms, cis-9-Tetradecenal acts as an interspecific signal/behavioral inhibitor, produced by female moths of heterologous species (e.g., H. armigera) to ensure reproductive isolation.
