DiIC16(3) is the lipid-mimetic dialkylindocarbocyanine (DiI) derivative. DiIC16(3) is a lipophilic red-orange fluorescent. DiIC16(3) is weakly fluorescent in water but highly fluorescent and quite photostable when incorporated into membranes. DiIC16(3) preferentially enters late endosomes/lysosomes.
